MESSAGE FROM GILL BALEN, CHAIRMAN

Shortly GPs will have the responsibility for commissioning the services they provide for patients. In the main this means that consortia of GPs will be formed consisting of anything from 100,000 to 500,000 patients.

The Red House Practice applied to form it’s own consortium so that it has complete control of the funds allocated. It has been fortunate to obtain ‘Pathfinder Status’, the only Practice in Hertfordshire to do so, and one of only 50 in England.

Patients and carers will be required to play a much greater role in the future. Initially, a committee of the Red House Patients Group that has been involved with commissioning will help to draw up priorities in healthcare.

However, in the longer term, it is essential that all sections of the community served by the Practice have their say, particularly those younger people with growing families. This is a great opportunity to get involved, so if this is of interest to you, please give your details to the Practice Manager, Ken Spooner.

The  Red House Patients Group is also interested in recruiting new members. Contact Gill Balen by leaving your details at the Red House.

Our meetings take place at the Vision Hall, Christ Church, Watling Street. We have coffee at 7.30pm for a 7.45pm start. The meetings are open to all Red House patients. Our members, who pay an annual charge of £3 come in free, and non-members are asked to pay £1. So, if you do the maths you will see it is more economical to join the Group! Other benefits of membership include a quarterly newsletter, and information on local and Trust matters. The Group also acts as a conduit between doctors and patients.

Further information about membership from Christine O’Donoghue Oak Cottage, Watling Street, Radlett, WD7 7HL www.communigate.co.uk/london/redhousepatients. Gill Balen. Chairman

Anyone registered with the Red House Group of Practices can join the Patients' Group for £3 per family a year. Forms are available at your local surgery or from the Membership Secretary on 01923 469179.
